When All That's Left is Arrogance

.
After sitting through tonight's charade, I'm pleased to announce that my television screen is not broken. I didn't throw anything at it, but never have I found myself more in "town-hall" mode--blurting out my incredulity each time his nose rose in the air. Never has a more pompous air accompanied such pedestrian words. He has squandered his charm; the cool is gone; all that's left is arrogance.
.
I simply don't believe half the things he says. I don't trust his statistics, his projections, his rhetoric. Some of it was downright laughable. When he said the bit about the overwhelming scientific proof of global warming, the chamber snickered from both sides of the aisle.
.
We all recall it was Congressman Joe Wilson who got himself in trouble last time by shouting "You lie!" when the president assured the America that illegal immigrants would not be eligible for his government-run healthcare. In Obama's mind he wasn't lying because he knew his intentions were to declare "illegals" legal, making his statement true. But Wilson was spot on in the sense that, if Obama gets his way, millions of people who will not have paid a dime into the government program will be able to tap it just like tax-paying American citizens.
.
Tonight's speech was peppered with so many "You lie" moments that even Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito mouthed "Not true" when the president accused the court of "selling out" our election process last week. ("I don’t think American elections should be bankrolled by America’s most powerful interests..." except of course the labor unions and billionaires like George Soros.) See the moment below. Many news sources pointed out the slo-mo incident. Now let's see if they do their homework and determine who is telling the truth, Justice Alito or Obama? My money is on Alito (seen at left of screen).

.
Some of the initial press on the subject, points out that the president's arrogance led to the moment with Alito. The "snob" poster at the top of the post is no fluke. Obama has struck that pose more than any man I've ever seen. He did it as he took the podium tonight and looked down on all of his fawning fellow democrats (who he hopes are willing to fall on the sword for his agenda).
.
This was not a State of the Union Address; it was a STATE OF DENIAL address (as this cartoon suggests). It was a rehashed campaign speech. Obama sees himself as the answer to our problems. And none of the problems we face were caused by liberal ideas run amuck. He thinks that if he continues to restate his hollow ideas and empty promises that the bandwagon will keep rolling behind him. It won't, Mr. President. That sound you hear behind you is not a bandwagon; it's a steamroller. I think you'll understand next November.

Alito has been criticized for displaying dissent. It was a breach of etiquette on his part so it is said. But Alito's critics do not mention anything about Obama's falsehood regarding foreign corporations or interests getting involved in our elections. It remains against the law. The court left that intact.

Whoever wrote Obama's speech did not do their homework and they got it wrong on foreign involvement in our elections.

Maybe you are having the same trouble I am in trying to understand what the consequences are likely to be regarding the Court's recent ruling. Will corporations spend tons of money to influence election results? I wonder. Maybe not. Maybe they will reason that it is too risky should their man lose and they have to deal with an irate winner.

One good thing about the ruling is that it frees up individuals to give as much money as they want to a candidate. This helps the candidate, who may be from the middle class and does not have a personal fortune to finance his or her campaign. As it is now, only the wealthy can afford to run for major offices.

The One was in FL today to prommote a speed rail from Orlando to Tampa and the question is...tada...."where will the $$$ come from?"!!!! He lives in a fantasy world I think. Remember when your kids were small and would ask for a new toy or something they wanted?? You'd say "but I have no money!" Then the response was..."write a check!" I think he's still living in THAT kind of world! He's a joke!

SQ,
I did see your question on this matter in the previous post. I have not read the ruling. I am not sure what they mean by corporation. We tend to equate the word corporation with "HUGE" and RICH when actually you and your husband could "incorporate" one of the small business he was talking about. This then introduces what they call in logic "the argument of the beard" (how many facial hairs constitute a beard? or how BIG must a corporation be before they are a danger to "free speech"? I think that the SCOTUS decision is correct constitutionally, but it could be problematic if the law does not require full disclosure. So I would recommend that all candidates and "causes" be required to identify their funding sources. The reason I think the Obama reaction is shallow is that the dems don't seem to mind millions and billions of influence from unions and un-named billionaires. They seem more upset that "free market/ business-side" funds will now be in play. That is a vote they have not courted in the past.

When Alito said "that's not true" he was correct and I think if the president is going to be so rude as to scold the highest court in the land that is forced to sit in spitting distance, they should have the freedom to disagree or point out that his facts are wrong. Lots of his facts were wrong last night. I only hope that the press does its job and keeps the pressure from last week's meltdown on him and those he warned not to "head for the hills."

WSL,
You are right. That is common sense which he claimed to have in the speech but when it comes to his promises he has a very thick book of checks.

The hope that was rekindled last week--that America is on to the con--is alive and well. Just flip channels between Foxnews and MSNBC and you'll see the conflicting views of reality, but look at the ratings. The liberals hot air balloon is leaking and their ratings are plummeting.
